Starting from 2021, the new six meter CCAT-prime telescope will be put into operation at an attitude of 5,612 m in the Chilean Atacama desert. This makes the telescope the world’s highest located of its kind. Temperature differences ranging from -30 to +40 ° Celsius necessitate the use of special Alloy 36 profiles in order to allow accurate measurements. Enpar Sonderwerkstoffe supplies more than 120 of these profiles, and thus enables a clear view of the stars.
By using high-strength titanium alloys, submarines can be redesigned: they are lighter, more maneuverable and provide inherent corrosion protection. Together with the customer, Enpar Sonderwerkstoffe develops all pressure retaining components in close cooperation with external inspection companies. These components are produced in special metal forming processes. The ‘pressure hull’ alone has a diameter of more than 1.6 m, and weighs approximately 2,500 kg.
Conditions of extremely high rotation speeds that reach beyond the sound barrier, high pressure, and extreme grades of corrosion require special material solutions made from titanium alloys. With a diameter of 1.5 meters, a height of 500 mm and a weight of almost 4,000 kg, Enpar produces the world´s largest compressor disc made from titanium alloy
Proton therapy has revolutionized high precision tumor treatment, since proton beams can be precisely directed to the affected part of the body. Thanks to sophisticated imaging, delivery and scanning techniques, the treatment options for proton therapy are rapidly increasing. Enpar Sonderwerkstoffe produces seamless rolled rings made from special stainless steel with specific physical properties for a particle accelerator (more precisely a ‘circular accelerator’) with a weight of approximately 100 tons.
Agitators for PTA (purified terephthalic acid) plants that are used to produce raw chemicals for the plastics industry are subject to extreme corrosive loads. These high demands require the use of titanium. Enpar Sonderwerkstoffe supplies forged agitators with a length of up to 15 meters and a unit weight of 14 tons.
Together with a major customer, Enpar is developing an innovative heat shield for gas turbines. Extreme temperature changes may occur while gas turbines are in operation, and through modification of existing nickel based alloys and the application of special production and processing parameters, Enpar has succeeded in producing seamless rolled rings with exceptional technical properties. Each ring weighs approximately 3.2 tons.
Ballistic protection made from high-strength titanium allows a significant increase of payload for highly protected tracked and wheeled vehicles, and therefore enhances capabilities such as reconnaissance and firepower. Enpar supplies individualized and ready-to-install parts, including the provision of serialization and paintwork to suit the customer’s requirements.
Oil and gas industry
Current transportation conditions for oil place extreme demands on the materials required. The main factors are high pressure, large temperature differences and corrosion, and there are only a limited number of materials which can meet these demands. Modification of existing materials in connection with special production techniques help to achieve material properties that resist the most demanding operating conditions.
Today, safety standards in the oil and gas industry are similar to these of the aerospace industry. We are able to deliver your customized product, including all required approvals and certificates.
Chemical processing industry (CPI)
The chemical processing industry comprises companies from various sectors, as well as their suppliers. This requires the maximum degree of flexible and individual solutions for materials and products, which we support by providing plates, bars and ready-to-install components
Machinery and plant engineering
The German machinery and engineering industry is a leading export and innovation sector. As a result of our customized material and product solutions as well as our high level of service, we are an integral part of this sector with regard to the delivery of plates, bars and ready-to-install components.
The importance of efficient energy generation is increasing steadily due to both the constantly growing demand for energy and strict environmental regulations. High pressure and increasing process temperatures are two important factors to consider when making improvements in efficiency, and necessitate the use of superalloys with exceptional properties. Thanks to our remarkable performance in the field of special materials, we have established framework contracts with global energy groups, and manage their inventories.
Whether Airbus A380 or Ariane 6, the European aerospace industry is one of the most important sectors and is characterized by steady growth. For most aerospace projects, companies from various countries work together over a long time period. For decades we have been supporting our customers in this international setting, from the development of a prototype to the supply of ready-to-install components.
Defense technology is one of the most innovative sectors in the world. This places the highest demands on quality and reliability, since failure can result in the loss of human lives. The increasing use of computer and security technologies reduces the payload of transport vehicles, and this leads to the increased use of titanium alloys. Besides a large number of ready-to-install components, for many years we have been supplying ballistic protection made from high-strength titanium alloys.
